the story behind this record begins in 2004 on newbury street in boston massachusetts. juice belushi founding member paul foley is dressed head to toe in 80s regalia, including vest, fingerless leather gloves, fedora and chain connecting nose-ring to ear pierce. its like a scene out of michael jacksons bad, minus the dancing. at his feet is a boom box blasting freestyle and 80s electro-funk, hes handing out mix cds. needless to say we were intrigued!

heavily inspired by early rave and detroit electro, paul blackford’s first release on breakin’ records was described as a pioneering uk take on the detroit techno bass sound. since then, he’s released tracks on labels such as wide, deadlock records and twilight 76. in 2009 he set up militant science as an output for his own and other artists material, with support from djs such as dave clarke, dj stingray, dj godfather, edmx, keith tenniswood, and many more. blackfords latest release on cpu turns up the bass and tempo, think kraftwerk vs detroit in effect.

a word from label boss chris farrell: this is the new one on idle hands, from us producer strategy. i first came across paul dickows work when he released a 12 inch called *world house* on his own community library label back in 2005. it blew me away. in the ensuing years my friend duncan george who promoted bristol’s best electronic music night - under_score tried on numerous ocasions to book him for a bristol date but it never quite hapened due to the usual things that go wrong in club land. in those years duncan kept in touch with paul and last year suggested to him that it might be worth sending some tracks to me, which he did at the start of 2013… add a peverelist remix and you have the tracks here before you, dub reggae informed house and psychedelic 2 step vibes.

the uk producer is joined by some famous friends on a surprising journey. watch the ants, paul whites forthcoming ep, is sure to further solidify his reputation as one of the most innovative producers in hip-hop and beyond. the south londoner is joined by the motley crew of trim, sean price, homeboy sandman and rap superstar-in-waiting danny brown, who recruited paul to produce nearly half his forthcoming album old and cited him as *my fav producer to work with*.
